Environmentally friendly coffins made from sustainably-sourced materials
At Hyndburn Funeral Services, we offer a range of coffins and caskets crafted from sustainably sourced materials, so that the environmentally conscious way in which a person lived their life can continue to be honoured when they pass away.
All three options are fully biodegradable and reduce the reliance on solid timber, safeguarding the future of precious forests and woodlands around the world.
The Willow Coffin
As this coffin is manufactured by hand using traditional weaving and carpentry techniques, it requires only the energy of the craftsperson to make, thus placing the minimum of burdens on the planet’s natural resources.
The willow used is, of course, fully biodegradable and requires less energy in the process of cremation than traditional timber caskets. Similarly, when buried, it is known that willow coffins decompose more quickly than their conventional wooden counterparts.
The Bamboo Coffin
The species of bamboo used in the making of our third, environmentally friendly coffin is grown specifically for such purposes and not relied upon by pandas. The plants are cultivated on farms licensed by the Chinese authorities and processed in responsibly managed facilities, staffed by an adult workforce.
As with our other environmentally conscious caskets, the bamboo coffin is completely biodegradable. Time-honoured weaving and carpentry skills help to make it every bit as elegantly presentable as a traditional wooden alternative.
